Ecuador’s Amazon is a vast and diverse region that covers around one-third of the country’s territory. It is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including many endangered species. The Amazon region is also home to many indigenous communities, whose way of life is closely tied to the rainforest ecosystem.

The Yasuni National Park is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, with an incredible array of plant and animal species. The park is located in the province of Pastaza and covers an area of more than 9,800 square kilometers (3,780 square miles). It is home to a number of endangered species, including the giant otter, the black caiman, and the jaguar. The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is another popular destination in Ecuador’s Amazon rainforest. Located in the northeastern part of the country, the reserve covers an area of more than 6,000 square kilometers (2,300 square miles) and is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including monkeys, sloths, and pink river dolphins. Visitors to Cuyabeno can go on guided jungle hikes, canoe rides through the reserve’s waterways, and birdwatching tours.

Tena is a small town located in the Napo Province, in the eastern part of the country. It is a popular starting point for exploring the Amazon region, with many tour operators offering guided trips into the rainforest. Visitors to Tena can go on hikes through the jungle, visit indigenous communities, and go on whitewater rafting trips on the Napo River.
